Bringing harmony between water and the urban environment: Varshets with a new singing fountain

Photo: Varshets Municipality

In the centre of Varshets a new singing fountain now rises. The modern landmark has transformed the central square, quickly becoming a favourite venue for the locals and for the guests to the town. The installation immediately attracts the attention of passersby with its dynamic water choreography, light effects and tunes, inspired by the natural wealth in the area – the mineral waters and the rivers of the Balkan Range. The fountain also includes a water mirror, cascades, mini-fountains and waterfalls creating a sense of movement and life. The new fountain has a complex underwater infrastructure and a modern design allowing the public to come in direct contact with the water. There are rest areas as well for watching the night-time light shows.

The square has been reorganized entirely around the fountain, the Sycamore Avenue that is emblematic for the town, has also been renovated. The locals call it the heart of Varshets and it is a place they can take time off and meet with friends. Interestingly, the system follows a 24-hour regime with automatic settings for jet intensity depending on what time of day it is – from relaxing rhythms during the day to dramatic combinations in the evening.
