A guidebook to the major Christian pilgrimage routes in the country was presented during the first national conference dedicated to pilgrimage tourism in Bulgaria, attended by Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh, Metropolitan Anthony of Western and Central Europe, representatives of the clergy and the tourism sector, reported BGNES.
The guidebook covers ten pilgrimage sites, including spiritual and cultural landmarks such as monasteries, churches and places of historical significance to Christianity in Bulgaria. Among these are locations in Sofia and the Sofia Sveta Gora, the Thracian Plain and the Rhodopes, the Rose Valley, Northwestern Bulgaria, etc. The guidebook draws attention to opportunities for pilgrimage and cultural-spiritual journeys by combining historical information with tourist routes.
According to Minister Borshosh, pilgrimage tourism in Bulgaria is steadily developing both as a religious and cultural form of travel that meets the demand of the modern tourist for a meaningful experience.
