A total of eight new European bison (two males and six females) were brought in two stages in June to the area of the village of Zhenda in the Eastern Rhodopes by the Rewilding Rhodopes Foundation, BTA has reported. Satellite transmitter-collars were placed on two of the bison. According to experts, this would allow tracking the movement and behavior of the animals in real time, which is a key element for the success of their adaptation. During the transport, the animals were accompanied by two Romanian veterinarians from the Fundatia Visual Lianei and Paumi Vet organizations.
Initial observations show that the animals are adapting well and show calm behavior and regular feeding.
Half a month ago, the foundation announced three new bison cubs were born in another territory in the Eastern Rhodopes. This is the area of the "Studen Kladenets" dam, where the population with newborns already numbers 22 animals.
