A serious injury led to the withdrawal of Grigor Dimitrov from the round of 16 match with Jannick Sinner at Wimbledon. The Bulgarian left the court mentally devastated, as he was close to one of the most dazzling victories of his career, after leading 6-3, 7-5 (2-2 in the third set) and was one step away from his second qualification for the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. Dimitrov would have recorded a success over the world’s number 1, but an injury to his right pectoral muscle took him out of the competition.
"Grigor is an incredible player and we all saw that today. I don’t take this as a win at all, this is just a very unfortunate moment to witness for all of us," Sinner said.
Dimitrov reached the match with Siner after three consecutive victories - over Yoshihito Nishioka, Corentin Moutet and Sebastian Ofner.
