Eurogroup finance ministers confirmed on Monday that the euro- lev exchange rate would remain unchanged after Bulgaria joins the eurozone. This was announced by President of the Eurogroup Paschal Donohoe. Today, the European Parliament in Strasbourg and the Economic and Financial Affairs Council in Brussels will make the final decision on Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone on January 1, 2026. No surprises are expected, as the member states and European leaders have already unanimously recommended that Bulgaria should adopt the euro in the beginning of next year, BNR correspondent Angelina Piskova reported from Brussels.

The European Union's Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) is to adopt three legal acts today - on the adoption of the euro by Bulgaria, on the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria and on the exchange rate of the euro for Bulgaria, which will finally formalize Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone from 01.01.2026.

Two protests against the introduction of the euro have been announced for today. At noon, civil initiative "Buditeli" organises a protest in front of the building of the Representation of the European Commission in Sofia. A second protest has been announced for the evening in the space between the National Assembly, the Council of Ministers and the presidency, BNR "Horizont" reported. This rally is supported by three of the parliamentary represented parties - "Vazrazhdane", "Velichie" and MECH.
