Talking to reporters, President Rumen Radev commented on the tensions in society in recent months, and the protests against the euro and the state of the justice system in the country.

“The town squares are full. Bulgarians are protesting against the refusal to hold a referendum and the adoption of the euro without the necessary conditions and preparations. Thousands are also protesting against selective justice when the law enforcement authorities are outrageously investigating the opposition, but retain complete silence when it comes to the ruling parties,” President Radev said during a visit to Arsenal military plant in Kazanlak where he met with its management and was acquainted with the plant’s development prospects.

Rumen Radev stated that right after the convergence report on Bulgaria’s readiness to join the Eurozone was made public, statistics registered a rise in prices. At the moment budget revenue collectability is lagging behind drastically, with investments marking a record low while industrial production is running to ruin, the president said.

As regards the arrest of Varna mayor Blagomir Kotsev, he stated: “It is obvious to everyone that we have a façade democracy, that the government is a prop for the Peevski-Borissov duo and that justice is selective.”
