Red heat alert issued for 12 Bulgarian districts, orange code alert in effect for the rest of the country

On Saturday, it will be sunny and even hotter. In the afternoon, clouds will form over the mountainous regions of Western Bulgaria, and by the evening, also in the northwestern areas. Isolated thunderstorms and rain showers are expected in some places. There will be a moderate southeasterly wind. Maximum temperatures will range between 38°C and 43°C, around 39°C Sofia.

The weather will be sunny along the Black Sea Coast. A moderate southeasterly wind is in the forecast for the afternoon hours. Daytime highs will range from 31°C to 34°C. The seawater temperature will be between 24°C and 26°C. Sea state 1–2 on the Beaufort scale.

In the mountains, it will be sunny and warm. In the afternoon, cloudiness will increase over the massifs in Western Bulgaria, with a chance of isolated brief showers in some places. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1,200 meters will be around 33°C, at 2,000 meters — around 27°C.

On Sunday, cumulus rain clouds will develop over the northwestern regions and, in the afternoon, over the mountains in Southwestern Bulgaria. Rain and thunderstorms are expected in some areas there. The rest of the country will remain sunny. A relatively cooler air mass will begin to move in as the wind shifts from the northwest.
