Bulgaria may host the start of the 2026 Giro d’Italia, Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Sports Minister Ivan Peshev at the Council of Ministers, Borshosh said that the government had approved a proposal from the two ministries to conclude negotiations on holding part of the prestigious cycling race in Bulgaria.

'The Giro d’Italia puts our country on the global tourism map and establishes Bulgaria as a recognisable destination,' said Borshosh, adding that the event would bring 'enormous additional benefits' to the country's image.

He added that three stages of the 2026 race would pass through dozens of municipalities, contributing to their development.
