The expected decline in Bulgarian exports to the US due to the new tariffs is about 32.8%. This is 1.5 percent of the country's total exports, says Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Doncho Barbalov. The decline in Bulgarian GDP in 2025 due to the sanction will be 0.35%.

When calculated based on Bulgarian exports to the US in 2024, it can be seen that the real average tariff for Bulgarian goods is 12.51%, Barbalov said. The exports of medical, surgical, dental instruments and devices, as well as sunflower seeds, will be affected the most by the new tariffs, Barbalov announced, quoted by BTA.

Deputy Minister Barbalov reminded that the EU is the only trading partner of the US with a two-phase definition of tariffs. This means that if the tariff was between 0 and 15 percent, it becomes 15%. If it was above 15 percent, the rate remains at the same level.
