Bulgaria ranks among Europe's top three for healthy life expectancy – Eurostat

Bulgaria ranks third among 30 European countries for healthy life expectancy, according to 2023 data from Eurostat.


On average, Bulgarians spend 68.6 years in good health, trailing only Malta and Italy. Bulgarian women rank second, with a healthy life expectancy of 71 years—just one month behind women in Malta. At the lower end of the table are Switzerland, Denmark, and Latvia, where average healthy life expectancy for women drops to 54–55 years.


Bulgarian men are also among the top performers, placing fifth with an average of 66.3 years in good health. 


Men in Malta, Italy, Sweden, and Norway rank higher, with Malta leading at 71.7 years. Slovakia, Estonia, and Denmark report the lowest figures for men, at 56.8, 56.5, and 51.2 years, respectively.
