The leader of ''DPS – New Beginning'', Delyan Peevski, has called on National Assembly Speaker Natalia Kiselova to convene an extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Water to draft and adopt a decision for the ''immediate, effective and decisive resolution of the systemic water crisis''.

''Today, at least half a million Bulgarians are affected by the water crisis, suffering from the unresolved water problems. If the procrastination, postponement and passing of the problem from one to another like a hot potato continues, tomorrow everyone will be at risk'', Delyan Peevski said in a statement to the media.

The MP proposed the establishment of a national water board, since there is no centralized, functioning water management system in the country. Other urgent measures that should be taken include drilling wells, testing water quality, finding new water sources, cleaning water sources and water pipes leading to populated areas, as well as replacing, repairing and constructing the entire water supply and sewerage network and irrigation systems for agricultural lands and industrial use, the MP stated.
