Tomato Day will take place in early September at the Botanical Garden in Budapest, Hungary. The Bulgarian Republican Self-Government in the Hungarian capital announced this on its Facebook page.
The event, which aims to present special Bulgarian tomato varieties grown in gardens, will be on September 3. Guests will not only be able to try them, along with Bulgarian white cheese, but also vote for their favorite in a culinary competition. Access to the event will be limited to those who purchase their ticket in advance at the garden’s cash desk.

The Society of Bulgarians in Hungary, together with the Bulgarian Republican Self-Government, submitted an official application earlier this year for the entry of the Tradition of Bulgarian Gardeners in Hungary into the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO – Hungary.

According to our compatriot Yordan Tyutyunkov, Bulgarian gardeners are one of the creators of the modern agrarian culture of Hungary and added that long before organic farming gained its current popularity, Bulgarians there were the ones who applied the principles of sustainable development, circular economy and zero waste, guided not by fashion, but by traditional wisdom, responsibility to the land and respect for nature.
