Around 320,000 people are expected to travel during the holiday period from September 6 to 8, said Rumen Draganov, Director of the Institute for Analysis and Assessment in Tourism, as quoted by BGNES. Nearly 40,000 of them will travel abroad, mostly to Greece and Turkiye.

Thanks to the beautiful weather, most Bulgarians will spend the long weekend within the country. ''During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people renovated their family homes or bought villas, and domestic travel has been increasing ever since'', explained Rumen Draganov.

In the second quarter of 2025, more than 26 million trips within Bulgaria were recorded, mainly to such homes and villas, while trips abroad reached nearly 8 million. Greece attracts more than 1.3 million Bulgarian tourists annually.

The number of foreigners who visited Bulgaria this summer was nearly twice the country’s population — 13.5 million. Meanwhile, domestic trips were four times the population, surpassing 26 million, said Rumen Draganov. In his words, more than 9 million international tourists entered the country between January and August.
