Over 400 participants will take part in the 11th edition of the Sofia Ekiden Marathon 2025. The competition will take place on September 6 and is dedicated to the anniversary of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia.

The event starts at 9:00 AM in front of Vasil Levski Stadium. Athletes will run along Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi Boulevard and Cherni Vrah Boulevard. Teams will compete in a relay format, covering the classic marathon distance of 42.195 km. Among the runners are also representatives of the diplomatic corps in Bulgaria. The event is held under the auspices of the Embassy of Japan in Bulgaria.

The first Ekiden marathon was held in 1917 in Japan. Since then, it has gained worldwide popularity as an accessible and engaging mass sporting event.
