The coach of Bulgaria's national football team Ilian Iliev has announced that he is leaving the national football team. The decision comes after two defeats by Spain and Georgia. The national team lost 0:3 in their first two World Cup qualifiers from Group E.

"I requested a meeting with the leadership of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) and said that in order to calm down the situation surrounding the national team, it would be better for me and my staff to leave. We will work out the details and the BFU will come out with official information," said Ilian Iliev, quoted by BGNES.

Iliev took charge of the national team of Bulgaria on November 1, 2023. He recorded 18 matches at the head of the representative team, in which the team won 3, lost 6, and 9 ended in a draw. At the same time as he was in charge of the national team, he also served as the head coach of the football team "Cherno more".

Bulgaria's next match is versus the team of Turkiye on October 11.
