The unemployment benefits in Sofia-city are higher than the minimum monthly wage in the country. They amount to 1,113 Leva (EUR 579.29) a month and are the highest for the entire country, indicate National Statistical Institute data. At the same time the average unemployment benefits received in Vidin receive amount to half of the average benefits for Sofia - 661Leva(EUR 337.96). The highest sums go to unemployed men in Sofia – an average of a little over 1,200 Leva (EUR 613.55), and women – 1,058 Leva (EUR 540.95).
A total of 56,000 people in the country have registered as unemployed entitled to benefits, the highest number being in the capital Sofia – 9,000, followed by Plovdiv – 6,000 people. The number of unemployed registered at the job centres in the country is 144,000.
