Traffic on Tsarigradsko Shose Boulevard in Sofia is blocked by two separate protests, by residents of the Gorublyane and Druzhba 2 neighbourhoods.

Residents of Druzhba 2 are protesting against planned “ongoing repairs” to the heating system by Toplofikatsiya Sofia, scheduled for October, November, and December – effectively covering half of the heating season. The company has said that the heat supply will be shut off in stages in different parts of the neighbourhood for up to 15 days.

In Gorublyane, residents are calling for the completion of the neighbourhood’s sewer system.

The protesters told BNR reporter Evelina Stoyanova that they plan to keep the road blocked until 8 p.m. Public transport and ambulances are currently being allowed through.
