Thanks to Christianisation, script, and language, the Bulgarian people and Bulgaria remained in the memory of Europe even when the Bulgarian state disappeared for centuries from the political map of the Old Continent. Christianity and creation of the Bulgarian script formed the Bulgarian statehood and the Bulgarian people. This is what Vice President Iliana Iotova said at a scientific forum in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, dedicated to 1160 years since the Christianisation of the Bulgarian people, 1170 years since the creation of Glagolitic script, and 1140 years since the Dormition of St. Methodius. She pointed out that with the adoption of Christianity by the Bulgarian people in 865, the Bulgarian state entered a completely new period of its political and cultural development and became an important factor throughout Europe.

The event is organized by the Sts. Cyril and Methodius International Foundation, the Bulgarian Patriarchate, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions in Bulgaria.
