Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Thessaloniki, the Bulgarian Patriarchate announced. The two discussed the centuries-old spiritual ties between the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Orthodox Bulgarians. An emphasis was laid on the good relations between the two patriarchates and other inter-Orthodox questions. Patriarchs Daniil and Bartholomew emphasized the great significance of theological education in the modern world. Patriarch Daniil expressed hope that the Holy Theological School of Halki, which has been closed for 54 years, will be reopened. The meeting lasted over an hour and passed in a spirit of brotherhood and cordiality. The two patriarchs exchanged symbolic gifts, reported the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

At the invitation of Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece, Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil takes part in an international academic conference in Thessaloniki dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the journal ''Theology''.
