The Ivan Vazov National Theatre's production of Medea won the Grand Prix at the 19th Skupi festival in North Macedonia, the company announced.

The production was specially created for the theatre by the acclaimed duo Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod.

The jury praised the production's impact, singling out Radina Kardzhilova for her performance in the title role. Audiences at Skopje’s Albanian Theatre responded warmly to this modern interpretation of Euripides’ tragedy.

The festival also honoured National Theatre director Vasil Vassilev for his work on Don Juan, a co-production with the National Theatre in Niš.

The Skupi festival, held under the motto “In the end, all masks must fall”, featured companies from Kosovo, Italy, Slovenia, Turkey, Serbia and Bulgaria, according to local outlet Tribuna.mk.
