Just 3 tenths of a second determined the champion in the 2025 Sofia Marathon. Kenyan runners Shedrack Kimaiyo and Abraham Kiplimo crossed the finish line at the same time and the use of photo finish was needed. Last year's winner Kimaiyo kept his champion’s title with a time of 2.17:10.552. Kiplimo finished with 2.17:10.832. The bronze went to Ismail Ssenyange (Bulgaria) with 2.47:07.
A new record was set in the women's race. Chelangat Sang from Kenya finished in 2.33:08. This is five minutes faster than her compatriot Harriet Chebore's achievement of 2.38:25 last autumn. Rose Jepchumba, also from Kenya, finished second with 2.44:50, ahead of Australian-born Melissah Gibson, who competes for UK, with 2.47:37. Bulgarian Silvia Georgieva placed fourth with 2.55:55.

The 42nd edition of the Sofia Marathon set a record in the number of participants. 8,000 participants took part in all distances, BTA reports.
