Plovdiv Airport welcomed the first flight from Milan (Malpensa) with an official ceremony on October 26. The aircraft carried 87 passengers on the newly opened regular Plovdiv–Milan route. Plovdiv Airport now operates 21 flights per week, said the airport’s Executive Director Krasimir Peshev. He noted that the airport’s passenger numbers are expected to reach 200,000 this year.
Regular flights to Milan are expected to contribute to the development of tourism and economic ties between Plovdiv and Northern Italy by expanding opportunities for travel and business partnerships. The route will operate year-round, with two flights per week—on Fridays and Sundays, according to the airport's management.
