The adoption of the euro from January 1, 2026, is "one of the most important stages in Bulgaria's European path'', said Premier Rosen Zhelyazkov at the high-level conference titled "Bulgaria on the Doorstep of the Eurozone" held in Boyana Residence in Sofia. The forum features participants such as European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis, and others.

"The euro is not just a currency; it is a strategic choice that solidifies Bulgaria’s place at the heart of a united and strong Europe. When the information campaign for the euro began, eurosceptics were in the majority. Currently, there is a 7% lead in favor of trust in the euro. Bulgarian businesses supported and continue to support this step. Sociological surveys show that citizens expect positive effects in the medium term, but especially in the long term. For the government and businesses, this is an opportunity that must be seized, though with additional measures", said Rosen Zhelyazkov. "I am confident that from January 1, 2026, Bulgaria will welcome the new currency as a symbol of the maturity of our European democracy", added Rosen Zhelyazkov.
