GERB leader Boyko Borisov has told the media that he personally participated in talks with American representatives on the lifting of the Magnitsky sanctions against Bulgarian citizens. He said that he also spoke on the subject with David Cameron while he was the British Foreign Secretary.

According to the GERB leader, the issue of how to lift the sanctions against Delyan Peevski was repeatedly discussed in his office during the meeting with the leaders of the PP-DB - Kiril Petkov, Asen Vassilev and Hristo Ivanov, BNR reporter Daniel Inkov reported.

"I am talking about all Bulgarians who have unfairly fallen under these sanctions," Borisov specified. The GERB leader said that he believes that Delyan Peevski has fallen under them unfairly. "I am convinced that Peevski did not sell passports, and whoever did, they arrested him," Borisov added, adding: "I participated when the sanctions were imposed. When they were imposed, I was at the US embassy with the ambassador and Jim O'Brien and I know everything about these sanctions." He indicated that he had also spoken to many of the partner services on the subject.

Later, in a Facebook post, Hristo Ivanov wrote: "It is categorically false that I have assisted for lifting the sanctions against Delyan Peevski."
