Research ship "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" has departed from Varna after a solemn ceremony. In its fourth voyage to Antarctica the ship is expected to reach the Bulgarian Antarctic base on Livingston Island by the end of December and return in mid-April 2026, captain Radko Muevski said.

During the current 34th polar expedition, scientists from Greece, Montenegro, Romania, as well as the United Arab Emirates will work in the Livingston Island base alongside Bulgarians. A project aimed at marine biodiversity will be implemented jointly between Bulgarian scientists and their colleagues from Portugal and the USA.

A number of projects are planned in the fields of microbiological research, marine biology, medicine, sociology, space research and oceanology. Systematic observations of the polar environment will continue.
