Bulgaria invests 115 million euros in secure satellite communications infrastructure

In 2026, the Ministry of Innovation and Growth will invest nearly 115 million euros in national infrastructure for secure satellite communications and in joint projects between business and academia. The funds will be distributed in eight new procedures under the Research, Innovation and Digitalization for Smart Transformation Program, the ministry announced.

The construction of a national communication center for secure satellite communications and Earth observation will be launched. It will ensure Bulgaria's participation in the EU GOVSATCOM program, the Galileo public regulated service (PRS) and the upcoming IRIS2 secure connectivity initiative. This will help protect critical infrastructure (energy, transport, communication) and accelerated and secure data exchange between national and European institutions.
