President Rossen Plevneliev will participate today in the 27th National Ceremony for paying homage to the victims of totalitarian regimes in the 20th century at Persin island (near the town of Belene), known also as Belene island. The ceremony will be held under the motto "The Song of Freedom".

The "Belene Island" Foundation is one of the organizers of the annual national ceremony. The President of the Foundation Mikhail Marinov said: "The Belene labour camp was the largest camp for persons considered politically dangerous for the communist government. There thousands of our compatriots were crushed physically and mentally. That is why the topic of these camps should not be forgotten."

At today’s ceremony, the participants will made the symbolic first sod for the construction of a Memorial Park on Persin island and a national donation campaign will be declared.
