At a meeting with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, journalists from Radio Bulgaria expressed concerns about the future of the program, which creates broadcasts for people abroad, including Bulgarians. They pointed out that this was one of the functions of the Bulgarian National Radio, regulated by the Radio and Television Act.
The President commented that discussing the idea of terminating Radio Bulgaria on the eve of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of EU was unacceptable.
"This program of the Bulgarian National Radio has vast experience and traditions in showcasing the positive image of Bulgaria as a European country of spirit and culture. It is hard to accept that an institution with more than 80 years of experience, working for Bulgaria’s image abroad and foreign policy would leave its positions and silence its voice in the region and across Europe. In the 21st century, when information and communication have leading roles in the processes of integration, it is inconceivable to choose the path of self-isolation," the Bulgarian President added.
