Despite some improvement, poverty in Bulgaria remains high

Latest research of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Studies at the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria suggests that the first six month of 2017 have seen a certain rise in the means of support but despite that poverty in Bulgaria remains high. Normal living is paid for with a monthly amount of about BGN 572 /EUR 292/ per person, and the support of a four-member family with two kids requires that each of the parents should make at least BGN 1143 /EUR 583/ per month. Currently, about 78% of households, or 5 million people, earn incomes below this margin.
