Migrant flow to Bulgaria marks 80 percent reduction

Migratory pressure to Bulgaria has declined by 80 percent, Bulgarian Minister of Interior Valentin Radev has told reporters. According to him, bilateral talks with Turkey have helped in achieving these results. Minister Radev vowed that the borders of Bulgaria are securely guarded and this is recognized by everyone in the EU. Border Police Director Svetlan Kichikov, on his part, said there was a sharp change in the nationality profile of the migrant flow to Bulgaria. Years ago, migrants were mainly Syrians and now they come mostly from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran. The most critical moment for this country was in 2015 when there were over 90,000 attempted illegal crossings.
