74 years have passed since the worst bombing of Sofia, carried out by the Allied forces during the Second World War. On this day in 1944 more than 30,000 incendiary bombs were dropped over the Bulgarian capital city.

Flowers and wreaths were placed in front of the monument to the victims and those who suffered from the bombings of Sofia.

Sofia was severely bombarded for four months after Bogdan Filov's government declared war on the United States and the United Kingdom. The number of people killed reaches more than 4,200 people. More than 12,000 buildings were destroyed.
