Bulgarian Olympic Committee celebrates 95th anniversary

The 95th anniversary of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee has been marked with a festive ceremony and planted trees. A number of sports legends, lecturers, members of the Olympic clubs, etc. were present at the event held in the "Vasil Levski" National Sports Academy.


The Bulgarian Olympic Committee was founded on the initiative of the military on March 30, 1923 and its first chairman was Colonel Eftim Kitanchev. Bulgarians, however, had participated in Olympic Games before that date. They were among the participants in the first modern Olympics since 1503 - those in Athens from 1896, in which a total of 245 athletes from 14 countries - Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Denmark, USA, France, Chile, Switzerland, Sweden and Italy.
