Today, Bulgaria and five other Black Sea countries mark the International Black Sea Day. On October 31, 1996, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia and Turkey signed the Strategic Action Plan for the Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation of the Black Sea. In 2009 the plan was updated through defining long term goals for the quality of the Black Sea eco-system and measures aimed at reducing pollution, improving the management of living resources and encouraging environmentally-friendly human development.
