The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church will decide today at an extraordinary meeting whether to support the proposal of the Russian Patriarch Kirill that a Universal Orthodox Council shuold discuss the controversies within the Orthodox Church. On October 11 the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I agreed to recognize the independence of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the Moscow Patriarchate.
