A cold wave is sweeping across Bulgaria as of today. Weathermen have issued warnings of a significant snow cover, blizzards and black ice, especially in Northeastern Bulgaria where an orange weather warning is in place.

Temperatures will plummet, forecasts being for morning temperatures of between 8 and 4 degrees C. below zero, dropping to 12 below zero in places, daytime temperatures will be between 3 below zero and 0.

At this time the roads in the country are passable. The Bulgarian Red Cross Mountain Rescue Service warns that conditions for tourism in the mountain are bad, and the lift facilities are not working.  Dozens of villages and towns in Northeastern Bulgaria were left without electricity. Emergency response teams of the electricity distribution company are trying to restore electricity supply.
