Archaeologists discovered an ancient street in the central part of Plovdiv. It was once part of the roman city of Philipopolis. It provided access to the central square of the Roman city where the main trade premises were arranged. The street was made of syenite stones. The antique masters extracted the stone from the local hills (tepe). The archaeological research is held in relation with the reconstruction of the modern Central city square in Plovdiv where most of the remains of the ancient Roman city of Philipopolis are buried. The street was built in the middle of the 3rd century AD. Archaeologists found well-preserved clay plumbing and sewerage system during the excavations.
