Annual alcohol consumption in Bulgaria estimated at nearly EUR 600 million

In 2017 the Bulgarians spent nearly 1.7% of their money on alcohol (just under EUR 600 million), data of Eurostat on consumption of alcohol in the EU shows. The EU citizens spent 1.6% of their money on alcohol on average. Nearly 15% of the Bulgarian citizens (nearly 1 million people) consume alcohol almost every day or several times a week, data of the National Statistical Institute show. Nearly 30% (roughly 2.1 million people) drink alcohol once a week, and one in three Bulgarians did not consume any alcohol in that period.
