At a commemorative ceremony in Sofia on the occasion of the 146th anniversary of the hanging of Bulgarian national hero fighter for liberation from Ottoman oppression, Vasil Levski, President Rumen Radev said that "Levski's portraits hang in many offices as icons in dilapidated churches but the faith in the Motherland and the will for truth and righteousness are stronger than destitution."

“Vasil Levski saw a future of people freely choosing rulers in a democratic society. Today, this right continues to be attacked," the president said in his speech. According to him, Levski’s spirit has outlived all the vicissitudes of Bulgaria’s newest history.
