EP elections 2019: Support for BSP and GERB is almost equal

At a media briefing in Sofia, the CEC presented the voting machines that will be used for the European Elections and which will be delivered to polling stations on May 24. The provider and auditors from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Sofia University have assured that their security is guaranteed.

The Institute for Public Environment Development has told the Bulgarian National Radio that increased media coverage of the election campaign can be seen in the 44 TV stations, radio stations, newspapers, news agencies and sites the institute follows.

In pre-election appearances of candidates for a place in the European Parliament, national topics continue to prevail over European ones. A particularly strong impression in this regard made yesterday's statement by a BSP candidate for MEP that if BSP was victorious at the European Elections on May 26th, the socialists would end their boycott of parliament and demand a no-confidence vote for the government of PM Boyko Borissov.

Ten days before the election, a fast poll by the Spectrum Research Center found out that the forces of the two leading parties were practically equal - the BSP enjoys 33.4% support and GERB has 33% support among voters. For MRF support is 8.7%, but it is likely to rise. In the so-called patriotic-nationalistic spectrum there is a balance of forces between “Patriots for Valeri Simeonov” and IMRO-BNM, with the share of supporters reaching 4.1%.

In the leftist spectrum, Coalition for Bulgaria has marked a rise (3.5 percent), while in the right wing Democratic Bulgaria reaches 4.1%, which shows increasing consolidation of the fragmented vote of the so-called “urban right". Despite their visible presence in the campaign, support for Volya (1.7%) and Ataka (1.3%) is lagging behind.

Major changes in the support for political forces are still possible, given that 29.3% of voters have not yet decided whom they are going to support. Just 37.9% of voters say they are going to vote for sure.
