The editor-in-chief of the 168 Hours newspaper and investigative journalist Slavi Angelov was attacked and beaten with metal objects last night in front of his home in the capital city of Sofia. The attackers were two, it was reported. Angelov was conscious when taken to hospital. Police are investigating the case. The main version of investigators is that the attack was related to his work as a journalist. The criminal act was condemned by the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists, Snezhana Todorova.
On behalf of the Bulgarian National Radio its Director General Andon Baltakov also came up with a position on the case. Mr. Baltakov voiced hopes that investigators will find the perpetrators of the crime as quickly as possible. This will be a sign that the freedom of investigative journalism is valuable to the civilized Bulgarian society and crime will be punished for any act of violence against e media representative, the position of the Bulgarian National Radio further reads.
