The money is earmarked for the construction of a highly efficient plant for the simultaneous production of heat and electricity with fuel obtained from non-recyclable household waste. The process, called cogeneration, will provide the citizens of Sofia with affordable energy and will be environment-friendly. The facility will produce about 55 megawatts of heat and 19 megawatts of electricity. This will provide heat to 40,000 people and electricity to 30,000.
