European Commission expects response from France over returned Bulgarians

The European Commission expects France to investigate the case of the Bulgarian seasonal workers who were forcibly returned to Bulgaria. We have full confidence in the inspection of the French authorities, said a spokesman for the institution.

Brussels has already recommended that EU countries should accept seasonal workers, despite the general closure of borders due to the Covid-19 pandemic. These guidelines, however, are not always followed. Temporary traffic restrictions must be clear to EU citizens. European law does not allow discrimination, including ethnic, the spokesman said in response to suspicions that Bulgarian passengers had been returned from Paris because they were of the Roma minority.
