There is good symbolism in the fact that Bulgaria joined the EU during the German Presidency in 2007, and now starting on July 1 we expect the German Presidency to resolve important issues, said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, welcoming German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.

We hope that when Germany heads the Council of the EU, Bulgaria would be accepted into the Banking Union and in the waiting room of the Eurozone - ERM II, PM Borissov added. At this crucial moment for the EU, Bulgaria supports the intention of the German Presidency to conclude the negotiations on the Multi-annual Financial Framework.

Solidarity, cohesion and convergence must remain at the heart of the EU's recovery plan, Boyko Borissov added.
