Tension escalated last night in front of the Bulgarian National Television building during the antigovernment protest. Protesters blocked the building demanding the resignation of BNT Director General Emil Koshlukov. The leader of the Parliamentary group of GERB party Daniela Daritkova and the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Kornelia Ninova who took part at the weekly political overview show Panorama were blocked inside the building for nearly two hours.
Eventually, BSP leader Ninova left the building via the central entrance. She was guarded by a dense police cordon. Daniela Daritkova was taken to a car, but protesters overturned trash cans and she remained stranded in the nearby streets. After the intervention of more Police officers, Daritkova escaped through the backyard of neighboring blocks of flats. Otherwise, the protest in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia and other district cities passed without serious accidents. Today, protesters will gather in front of the Council of Ministers building to demand the resignation of Bulgaria’s cabinet and of this country’s Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev for the 17th consecutive day.
