Bulgaria's Deputy Chief Prosecutor Krassimira Filipova announced that the meeting of the  Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group (DRFMG) at the European Parliament had been requested by  Bulgaria's Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev in the context of increased political and media pressure on the prosecutor's office.

The highlights of the meeting dedicated to Bulgaria were the achievements in the cases of high public and media interest, the press center of the institution announced.

According to the Constitution, the prosecutor's office is unified, but not centralized. The only obedience that is due is obedience to the rule of law. Prosecutors are not in a hierarchical relationship with the prosecutor general, nor with their administrative heads. They are free to make decisions according to their inner conviction and they cannot be controlled by the country's prosecutor general, Filipova said at the meeting.
