As of today, 9 January, the German province of Hessen is putting in place the requirement for a negative Covid-19 test for all arrivals from high-risk regions, among which Bulgaria.

Arrivals can take a test immediately upon arrival on the territory of the federal province, the Foreign Ministry says. The test can be either a PCR or an antigen test, performed no later than 48 hours prior to arrival. The result must be in English, German or French.

The requirement remains for all arrivals in Germany, including in Hessen, to complete digital registration in advance, as does the mandatory 10-day quarantine which can be terminated if a negative test result is presented, performed on the 5th day after arrival.

Arrivals in the province of North Rhine-Westphalia from high-risk regions are also subject to mandatory 10-day quarantine which can be terminated if a negative PCR test is presented, performed within 48 hours prior to departure or immediately upon arrival.
