Number of cars in Sofia has doubled in 9 years

The number of registered cars in Sofia is currently 833,000, a report given by Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and quoted by the Dnevnik website indicates. In 2011, they were almost twice less - 462,000.

Old and polluting cars, without or with eco standard Euro 1 and 2 are over 30%. The number of more environmentally friendly car models - with Euro-5 and Euro-6 standard - is 204,000.  Separately, 137,000 trucks and over 5,000 buses are registered in the capital.

A total of 987,000 cars and trucks with Sofia registration are moving in the city, as this figure does not include cars registered outside the capital

The average age of cars in Sofia in 2020 was 19 years. In 2011 the average of cars was 24 years.
