The Bulgarian National Radio’s annual awards, selected by the BNR’s Public Council, were handed out at an online ceremony on the eve of World Radio Day.
“2020 was an extraordinary year, a year of surprises. It enabled each one of us to discover the innovator within ourselves,” said BNR’s Director General Andon Baltakov as he presented the award.
Vania Valkova, “Digital projects” Director who received the prize stated that the Covid-19 ordeal had shown that in times of crisis people turn to public service media for information. Last year the BNR’s website saw a 60% increase in its online users.
Assya Pencheva, Bulgarian National Radio correspondent in Ruse won the Radio Journalism award for 2020.
The “Radio Project” award went to the authors of the project “Whimsical stories with BNR-Burgas”.
The “Golden Voice” prize of the Nadezhda Jeneva Foundation was awarded to the BNR’s Horizont channel.
In the year of its 85th anniversary Radio Bulgaria had three nominations: Radio Bulgaria - for the Sirak Skitnik Grand Prix, Yoan Kolev – for Radio Journalism, and the Turkish-language programmes for “Radio Project” for 2020.
