Bulgaria's Vice President meets with UN refugee representative

Bulgaria's Vice President Iliana Iotova has received the new representative in Bulgaria of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Narasimha Rao Nilagiri Lakshmi. The two discussed the conditions for refugees in Bulgaria in a pandemic situation. Iotova pointed out that caring for refugees in the current crisis was even more needed to ensure the security also of Bulgarian citizens and to prevent the instillation of fears and xenophobic sentiments.
The issue of vaccination of refugees, which are not explicitly mentioned in the National Vaccination Plan, was also discussed.
The UNHCR representative stressed that more programmes were needed for the integration of refugees in Bulgaria. The Covid-19 pandemic has also affected the employment of those receiving asylum, the press office of the presidency announced.
