Constitutional Court rules that unlimited donations for political parties are unconstitutional

The Constitutional Court has ruled that the legal provisions allowing political parties to receive unrestricted donations from natural and legal persons are unconstitutional.

The amendment was made through the transitional and final provisions of the State Budget Act for 2019, and the matter was referred to the court by President Rumen Radev.

The amendments were made during a disputation at the 44th National Assembly regarding party subsidies. The MPs first endorsed the reduction of the price of one vote from 11 Leva to 1 Lev, and then introduced unrestricted donations. The price of one vote was then set at 8 Leva, but the text regarding donations without limitations remained.
